Latvian Graphical Industry Trade Union (LGITU) was founded on 7th December 2005 and registrated in the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia on 19th January 2006.

Latvian Graphical Industry Trade Union is a voluntary, democratic non-governmental organization, which, on the basis of total equality, unites employees in the graphical branch.

The main task of LGITU shall be the protection of professional, socio-economic rights and interests of its trade union members.

All trade unionists at workplaces belong to the local trade union. Through the local union workers may establish agreements with employers concerning their pay and working conditions.

On 15th January 2006 there were the 1st Congress of the Latvian Graphical Industry Trade Union and Mr. Aldis Misēvičs was elected as chairman for the next 5 years.

On 18th June 2013 the Agreement about cooperation was signed between the Latvian Graphical Industry Trade Union and the employers’ organization the Association of Latvian Printing Companies. The objective of the agreement is a stable, balanced and long-term cooperation, with special emphasis on protection of the labour and socio economic interests of the employees, development of the sphere, promotion of social dialogue and democracy in the field.

Since 2013 the Chairman Aldis Misēvičs represents Latvia at the Social Dialogue Committee in graphical sectors of the Directorate General – Employment and Social Affairs of the European Commission.
